A new conductive stretchable ink fo Smart Textile applications
EPTATECH S.R.L., a Business Brand by EPTANOVA group, and COMFTECH Srl have started a co-operation involving the use stretchable conductive inks in the manufacturing of smart garments for the medical and sports sectors. The garments are intended to continuously and non-invasively monitor the users’ physiological parameters. The technological platform under development involves the joint use of bio-sensors manufactured by COMFTECH – made of conductive fibres – and a conductive ink by EPTATECH, which will be printed on the garments, in order to manufacture the circuit components that transport the signals of the sensors and, if required, the power supply. The first example of this co-operation is “HiBABY”, a garment that has been designed and manufactured by COMFTECH for the monitoring of newborn babies’ vital functions during their first hours of life. The product, that has been patented, solves the problem of checking the conditions of these little patients, overcoming the invasiveness and discomfort of traditional technologies. A prototype of this product will be shown in the TexClubTech Forum Area at the upcoming Techtextil Exhibition in Frankfurt, 9-12 May.
The ink by EPTATECH, a result from EPTANOVA group experience in the textile sector together with a dedicated development programme, was purposely conceived for Smart Textile applications: it keeps its good electrical conductivity properties while adapting to mechanical stresses, such as bending and elastic elongation of the fabric in the everyday use. The use of dedicated protective inks, together with the conductive inks, allows the electrical isolation of the printed circuits and protects them during washing. The printing of conductive inks on fabrics allows integrating the circuit components in the garments through a flexible and cost-effective manufacturing process.
